“a new heaven and a new earth”

We get so caught up in this world that we are living in that we forget sometimes that this is not where we belong.

If our names are written in the Book of Life, the new heaven and earth will be our first destination where we will meet together for the first time.  A time where we will be brought to Christ, and be presented as a glorious Church, without spot or wrinkle.

The new heaven and the new earth will not be separate from each other; the earth of the saints, our glorified, bodies, will be heavenly. The old world, with all its troubles and tumults, will have passed away.

There will be freedom from conflicting passions, temptations, troubles, changes, and alarms. The presence of God will be with us, it will not be interrupted as it is on earth, He will dwell with us continually. All effects of former trouble shall be done away. We have often been in tears, by reason of sin, of affliction, of the calamities of the church; but no signs, no remembrance of former sorrows shall remain. Christ makes all things new.

If we are willing and desirous that the gracious Redeemer should make all things new, He will make all things new in respect of our situation, till He has brought us to enjoy complete happiness.

Sensual and sinful pleasures are muddy and poisoned waters; and the best earthly comforts are like the scanty supplies of a cistern; when idolized, they become broken cisterns, and yield only vexation. But the joys which Christ imparts are like waters springing from a fountain, pure, refreshing, abundant, and eternal. The sanctifying consolations of the Holy Spirit prepare for heavenly happiness; they are streams which flow for us in the wilderness. (Matthew Henry)

For it is said, “He that sitteth on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And the Lord says, Write all this; for these words are faithful and true. And He said to me, They are done.”  And this is the truth of the matter

faithful…

…a holy people.

Partakers of the blessings of God‘s goodness; separated and distinguished from others by the grace of God; are sanctified and brought into the Gospel; and who assemble together to worship God, and wait on Him in His word and ordinances, and praise God in  song; publicly honouring and glorifying God; following the example of Christ who has gone before us.

The mark of a faithful follower of Jesus – the realization that the new mercies we receive each day continually demand new songs of praise. We bless the God who made us, and  rejoice in Him, as having created us in Christ Jesus to do good works, and formed us as faithful saints.

The Lord takes pleasure in His people; and we should rejoice in Him. When the Lord has made us realize that our feelings of wants and unworthiness can be exchanged for the Spirit of grace and that we can reflect the image of God to which He created us – we can then rejoice in His happiness.

Let us, His  saints employ their waking hours upon their beds in songs of praise. Let them rejoice, even upon the bed of death, assured that we are going to eternal rest and glory…having been faithful.

Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?

This is not a statement, just a rhetorical query.

I mean, just because this is something that can’t necessarily be believed by some, why should it be regarded as absurd?

Some of you, who believe that God is omnipotent, Creator of all, authour of the human frame , testimonies throughout history of restoring a person’s life – the resurrection is no more incredible than the original creation of the body and is accomplished with no greater difficulties.

If the dead are too be raised, then it is also not absurd to think that the purposes of such an act would be that of justice – vindicating the just and punishing the unjust.

The overwhelming evidence of the resurrection of Jesus, which proclaims Him to be the Christ, the Son of God; the only way of getting rid of that thought, that idea, is to pronounce it incredible.

Then we have Christmas.

The whole idea was that a baby would be born so that He could die.

That a virgin would be impregnated by the Holy Spirit.

A star would bring travellers to come from the east with amazing gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense.  These travellers came to worship a king, but they did not worship Herod whom they had met, the worshipped a baby in a manager.

This new family would flee to Egypt, Herod would kill every male child in the Bethlehem area just to make sure he would kill this King of the Jews.

Not so incredible to believe that God can raise the dead, not so incredible to believe that there is a resurrection, not so incredible to believe that our lives here on earth matters, and how we live that life matters and how involved God is in our lives matters and what we believe about Him matters, not so incredible to believe that there will be an account of our life that was given to us by God and not so incredible to believe that there will be only two outcomes on that final day when we meet Him face to face.

Accuser who accuses

In my world, I see the power of God almost every day.  It is an amazing thing, it is a beautiful and life changing thing.

I do not give myself to much thought of the forces that come against God each day, as I find myself to be very trusting and safe in His protection.

I try to see the world through the eyes of God and see the incredible, unrelenting, persecution of the good in our society – the children, the simple, the old, the unborn, the women, the poor, the lonely…

Lately I have allowed myself attention to seeing the work of the ungodly, the accusers of the good, they seek their own gain, they will seek whatever means, at whatever is at their disposal to accomplish what they want, when they want it and give no regard to how that happens.  In other words, the end justifies the means.

There is an invisible force helping these ungodly people to be as evil as they are.  This is not a natural drive built into the human race.

Is there success in these arenas of life?

What is my role when the ungodly rape the land, allow their people to starve or thirst to death, put their youth in armed forces at the age of 8, slaughter people who are just different then they are and no one really knows the definition of different or why that is worthy of being slaughtered, they just do it.

I realize that the onslaught happens to all of us each day.  Happens to me too.  If our family is to have an argument of any kind, it will happen just before church, during church or right after church – for those with family – you know what I mean.

This is only the accuser trying to accuse.

I have decided that love wins all the time.  No matter what, the default has to be love.  Even when Jesus hung on the cross and the evil in the world thought they had won, they did not – LOVE did.

I pray that I will learn how to love, default to love, in everyone – see the image of God, in everything – see how the hand of God in my hand can make a difference, and learn how not to serve to someone, but come alongside and to serve with them.

walking in the truth…walking in love

To walk in the truth one has to walk in love…how does one walk in love?

I mean…love your enemies…how does one do that?

Love those who killed your parents, your children….

Love those who abused you…

Love those who cheated, stole, lied…

Love those who abandoned you…

Heavy stuff…and yet that seems to be the call of the day.

More and more I realize that I think I can do this “Christian” stuff on my own, I can’t.

More and more I realize that the “Christian” life cannot be lived without the power of God infilling us with His love.

More and more I realize that God has given us the power of the Holy Spirit so we can be Christians.

We do not talk a lot about the Holy Spirit – seems we take Him for granted until the tank is dry and we are dry and empty.

Seems to be that each day, when we talk with God, read His Word, ask Him for help to do what He needs us to do for the day – its like going to the gas station and getting a fill-up.

Then when we walk His walk, its like we are giving away His love and at the end of the day we are not so frazzled after all.

So it’s another decision I make the first thing in the morning…God, I want to walk in truth today, because that is your character – you are truth.  So that others see You, help me walk in love, but give me the power of your Holy Spirit, because today, without Him, I cannot love all the people you want me to love on my own.

Thank you Lord, touch base with you again tomorrow morning.

the Lord stood near

Have you ever wanted to see Jesus?

I personally have no desire, but my mom really would like to see Jesus.  That’s probably because her mother had an opportunity to see Jesus walk into the room while she was praying.

There is only one reason why we would…or even to sense His presence – for Jesus to encourage us and cheer us on in the direction and for the purpose He has called us too.

I am sure there are times in your life as there are in mine where you think you might have made a mistake, missed the boat, put on the shelf and Jesus is nowhere to be found.  Maybe there was a fork in the road and you took the wrong turn, or maybe on the Highway of Holiness, we got off.

I believe that He does stand near, cheering us on, telling us in His still small voice not to fear…

a curse and an oath

I heard this concept recently at a Social Media training presentation.

It went something like this – you set yourself up with goals – SMART – and then you set for yourself consequences that will take place if you do not reach your goals.  For instance, you might make a major gift of $5,000 to a charity.

Then I was thinking about the relationship that people had with God before Jesus came and ushered in the age of grace.

They did the same thing.

They not only made an oath, or a commitment to follow God in everything that He had instructed; they also set up curses upon themselves if they should in any way, shape or form, deviate from that path.

Maybe its as easy as promising yourself not to curse.  So you set up a “curse jar” and every time you break your promise you through in a loonie.  Something tells me there is far more to this.

Lord, I want to follow you with all my heart, I want you to make me different, to change me…I pray that you will forgive me when I fall off this path I desire so much and never leave me…in fact, hold my hand and when I can’t seem to stand, carry me…

Thank you Jesus for removing the curse from my life and for helping me fulfill my oath.
