This is an important characteristic of those who have made a decision to follow God.
It is an incredible characteristic because it is the one, when placed totally in God, can’t be removed, it’s like a mountain – firm and stable.

It is our natural inclination it seems to trust in ourselves – our hearts, strength, wisdom, wealth and for some of us – our righteousness.  There is no mercy in that, or grace and it doesn’t account for spiritual or eternal matters.

The Targum describes trust as “the righteous that trust in the Word of the Lord;” in Christ the essential Word, who is trusted in by all that know Him, and that know there is salvation in Him, and in no other: we trust in Him for acceptance with God, for a justifying righteousness, for remission of sin, for all supplies of grace, and for eternal life; being beloved and chosen of God, enjoying His presence, and the blessings of His grace; and being the joy of the whole earth, and a perfection of beauty.

So what happens when we feel removed from Him, His presence, His purpose, His fellowship…

Understand this – trust Him – for even though we may feel this way, the truth is we have never left His heart’s love, never left the covenant of His grace, nor are we out of His hands and arms, off His thoughts – we abide in the love of God, in the hands of Jesus, in the grace wherein we stand and in the house of God for ever.

“For to this we both labor and suffer reproach because we trust in the Living God who is the Savior of all men, especially to those who believe” (Heb. 4:10)
