Why do we matter?

We are here today, and gone tomorrow – that is how insignificant we are – and yet God takes us very seriously.  So much so that God sent His Son Jesus as a tangible expression  of  just how much we matter.

When I consider the heavens, and I really enjoy the daily photos that come from APOD, even just the sun,   moon and stars and they way they are set, it would seem that God has chosen the weak and the puny – us –  in order to appreciate and respect His glory.

God feeds and clothes us, protects and provides for us just as He does for the other creations, but decided to visit us as a friend would visit another, and is pleased to converse with us and concern Himself with us!

He has shown grace to finite human beings.  Remember Moses, God came to him and told him what to say to Israel – “I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Egypt.”  Naomi told her daughter-in-laws that it was time to go back to her home because   God had  “visited His people by giving them bread.”  So the concept of God visiting His people is not a strange one when we consider that at the end day God sent His son, it wouldn’t have been the first time for such a visit, but of course the manner of the visit was meant to change our relationship with God forever.

And so we know we matter – still we are not sure why we matter.  For now that is all that matters.
